District 16 State Senator Gary Dahms of Redwood Falls was reelected on Tuesday. Dahms ran against former Wabasso School Superintendent Ted Suss. Dahms received a total of 20,917 votes, while Suss received 18,495.
Republican Paul Torkelson was reelected to the Minnesota House of Representatives on Tuesday as well. Looking ahead to next year, Torkelson believes that the Legislature will be able to balance the state budget without raising taxes.Torkelson represents House District 16B, which covers all of Brown and most of Redwood Counties. The new district was formed during the state’s redistricting process. Torkelson ran against Independent Jerry “Pike” Pagel and Democrat James Kanne, who says that he thoroughly enjoyed the campaign experience. Torkelson won with 56% of the vote, compared to Kanne’s 32% and Pagel’s 11%.
