The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team jumped out to a 16-6 lead over Virginia last night in the Women’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Williams Arena. Then the wheels came off the tracks for the Golden Gophers. Virginia outscored the Gophers 84-52 the rest of the way and beat Minnesota 90-68. Lakeville’s Rachel Banham paced the Gophers with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Bemidji native Kayla Hirt added 14 in the losing cause. The Gophers are now 6-and-2 on the season and will play at No. 20 Kansas on Sunday. Virginia moved to 5-and-1.
