Several employees of the Sleepy Eye Del Monte plant have won a settlement for wages under the federal fair labor standards act. The claim was over wages for time spent putting on and taking off mandatory safety gear, and 94 employees will be awarded around $1,000 each in incentive payments, with the exact amount determined by how much each employee worked. It was estimated that the employees spend 15 minutes per day taking the required gear on and off. The attorneys representing the employees reported that Del Monte was easy to work with and showed genuine concern for the employees and community throughout the process. Those attorneys will be paid more than $104,000 for fees, and just over $12,000 for expenses.
