Firefighters battled what’s being called a “massive” grassfire in Waseca County over the weekend. The fire was reported at around 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon near Buffalo Lake in Waseca County, just southwest of Janesville. Investigators say the fire apparently started in a ditch and spread into the cattails surrounding the lake. Authorities blocked off traffic as tanker trucks made their way to the fire, which burned an estimated 100-acres of mostly conservation land managed by the Department of Natural Resources. No one was hurt and no structures were threatened by the fire. Investigators are still working on discovering what initially sparked the blaze.
