The San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers will battle in Game One of the 2012 World Series tonight in northern California. The Tigers have been waiting almost a week since sweeping the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series and will play in the World Series for the first time since losing to St. Louis in 2006. The Giants secured their second World Series berth in three years on Monday with a 9-0 rout of the Cardinals in Game Seven of the NLCS to complete a rally from a 3-1 series deficit. The Giants won the 2010 World Series for the franchise’s first title since moving to San Francisco in 1958, while the Tigers haven’t won the Fall Classic since 1984. Justin Verlander is slated to start Game One for the Tigers, while the Giants Barry Zito will get the ball.
