The Timberwolves exercised the third-year contract options on guard Ricky Rubio and forward Derrick Williams on Tuesday. They are both now under contract through the 2013-14 season. Rubio averaged 10.6 points and 8.2 assists in 41 games last season before a knee injury ended his campaign in March. Williams averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 66 games as a rookie last year.
The Timberwolves are gearing up for the regular season opener on Friday against the Sacramento Kings at the Target Center. The T’wolves are aiming for their first playoff appearance since 2003-04. They finished 12th in the Western Conference last season at 26-and-40.
