A Sleepy Eye woman has been sentenced to 20 days in jail and 5 years on probation for welfare fraud that occurred over the course of 4 years. 23-year-old Keshia Weigel had been charged with 6 counts of wrongfully obtaining public assistance and 13 counts of perjury in Brown County Court for reportedly receiving food stamps, work benefits, and medical and childcare benefits for herself and a child that was no longer living with her. She was also a recipient of the Minnesota Family Investment Program. She received a stay of adjudication on 1 count and the other counts were dismissed. She will be required to pay nearly $20,000 in restitution.
