The Sibley County Board on Tuesday voted in favor of rural Sibley County withdrawing from the Renville-Sibley Fiber project. The $70-million proposal to bring high-speed fiber optic internet, telephone and television services to the residents of both counties was approved by the Renville County Board on Tuesday, leaving only the City of Henderson still to vote on the project. There had been some questions over the bonding for the project, and the Sibley County Board withdrew from it on a 3-2 vote, with Commissioners Nytes, Pinske, and Swanson voting in favor of the motion to drop out of the project. The RS Fiber Joint Powers Board will be meeting at 7pm today (WED) on the 2nd floor of the Winthrop City Hall to discuss the next steps, and how the withdrawal of Sibley County affects the overall project. The meeting is open to the public.
