The Month of September was extremely dry for much of Minnesota, with records set in many communities. And overall, Minnesota was the driest of 9 Midwestern states – because areas south and east got rain in early September from former Tropical Storm Isaac. New Ulm received a total of seven-tenths of an inch of precipitation throughout September, making it one of the driest ever. Other cities throughout the state experienced their driest, or second-driest September ever as well. Extreme drought conditions were expanded across northwest and southwest Minnesota recently also, and many rivers around the area are at record-low levels, including the Minnesota River.
