Regional Traffic Safety Grants 18 Oct 12

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has announced new federal grants to support traffic safety enforcement and educational efforts in south-central Minnesota. The $360,000 will help support law enforcement overtime for the Toward Zero Deaths initiative. The grant money was announced Wednesday, and will fund traffic safety efforts through September of 2013 for Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Waseca and Watonwan Counties. There have been a total of 345 people killed in traffic accidents in that region over the last decade, an average of 35 deaths each year.
