The new “Roundabout” on Highway 14 on the west end of New Ulm is scheduled to be opened to the public today (FRI). The opening had been delayed due to a shortage of lighting supplies, and a detour has been in place. That detour will now be coming down, and a brief ceremony will be held to commemorate the re-opening of Highway 14 at 10am today. The mayor of New Ulm as well as Mn/DOT and project representatives are scheduled to be on hand for the ceremony. State officials say that roundabout intersections lower the incidence of crashes, and can handle high levels of traffic with less delay than most stop signs or signals. Tips for driving through roundabouts can be found on the Mn/DOT website.
