A New Auburn man with outstanding warrants in McLeod and Sibley Counties has been taken into custody after apparently using a storage unit in Hutchinson as a “hideout.” 22-year-old Damian John Ristau was arrested after his girlfriend reportedly told Hutchinson police that she had locked him inside one of the storage compartments at Hutchinson Self Storage, evidently to keep police from arresting him. Upon arrival, police found the storage unit unlocked, and the girlfriend inside the unit on a mattress. When asked where Ristau was, she said she didn’t know, but police located him under some blankets. He was arrested on a McLeod County firearms violation. He also had an outstanding warrant for bad checks out of Sibley County.
