The Minnesota Supreme Court will hear the appeal of a Mankato man’s murder conviction. 36-year-old Joel Marvin Munt was sentenced to life in prison without parole after killing his ex-wife in front of their 3 children in March of 2010. He was convicted of 1st-degree murder for the death of Svetlana Munt in September of 2011, and now a year later the state will review the case as required by law. Assistant Blue Earth County Attorney Patrick McDermott says that there is little chance that the conviction will be overturned. In Munt’s appeal to the Supreme Court, his attorney will argue that a juror showed a bias against Munt’s insanity defense, but the judge failed to remove that juror. A date for the appeal hearing has not yet been set, but it is expected to take place sometime in December.
