Local Area Resignations 01 Oct 12

The president of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce is resigning. Jeff Steinborn announced his formal resignation at the chamber’s most recent meeting. Steinborn is running for a seat on the Henderson City Council, and is resigning from the Chamber because he feels his candidacy creates a conflict of interest. This month’s Henderson Chamber of Commerce meeting will be run by Chamber Vice President Loren Edberg.

St. James Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lori Nusbaum has tendered her resignation. She will continue to work for the Chamber through this Friday, October 5th. Jennie Geiger-Firchau will be working closely with Nusbaum until she retires, and the search for a new Chamber Executive Director will get underway soon. Nusbaum has not given a reason for her resignation.

The chief of police in the City of Brownton is resigning. The last day on the job for Chief Ron Kelm Jr will be today (MON). His departure will leave Brownton with only part-time police officers. The Brownton City Council began discussing the city’s options for replacing Kelm at it’s recent meeting. The choices include hiring a full-time officer and filling in their off-time with part-time officers, contracting with the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office for police coverage, or keeping a police department with 2 full-time officers. The council voted to advertise for a full-time officer, with the hope to hire someone by the end of the year. Brownton will continue to use part-time officers in the meantime, and may contract with the sheriff’s office on a short-term basis.
