Flu Shots Questioned 17 Oct 12

State health officials are encouraging Minnesotans to continue getting vaccinated for influenza, despite a new report from the U of M. Researchers concluded that current vaccines offer “suboptimal” protection and a new game-changing vaccine needs to be developed. The state Health Department’s Kris Ehresmann says the annual flu shot is safe and does provide protection. Ehresmann says it could take many years to develop a new vaccine that provides 100% protection for up to a decade. One of the authors of the U of M study received his annual flu shot, and still urges people to be vaccinated.
