And what is the point of this whole city wide plan? To protect everyone from getting cancer? Sounds a little "Nanny State" to me... where did the freedom for people to make their own decisions go?

As for the other comment, chewing tobacco has no effect on the people standing around the user. They should have a freedom to chew at a baseball field, or wherever they want to. What harm does that do?

"The policy also does not apply to chewing tobacco at the Memorial Park baseball facilities in recognition of the long-standing connection between chewing tobacco and baseball."

REALLY? Who had that idea? Or was this a joint imbecilic decision?

Did anyone bother to recognize the long-standing connection between chewing tobacco and cancer? By reading the above, I guess the answer is obvious.

Consider this and perhaps removing the exemption granted to chewing tobacco at Memorial Park:

Smokeless tobacco is NOT a safe alternative to cigarettes. It can cause addiction, serious mouth problems, and mouth cancer. In 1987, warning labels went on the cans and pouches. In 1988, many clubs banned free samples from the clubhouse. In 1990, Major League Baseball issued a report on the hazards of smokeless tobacco and announced new efforts to help today's players beat the habit and to help prevent the next generation from getting hooked.

Still have any doubts? Why not ask Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn what he thinks of this bright idea?

Wow! This is huge. Inspiring, bold... what has been the response? Do you have plenty of support in place for those seeking freedom from tobacco?
