A Mankato man serving time in prison for drive-by shootings in Gaylord and St. Peter last November and December was in court on other charges on Monday. 24-year-old Michael Lamont Smith faces felony charges for financial fraud and selling or possessing stolen or counterfeit checks. Smith is already serving at least 44-months in prison for the drive-by shooting convictions. Both incidents took place in mobile home parks in St. Peter and Gaylord, and apparently involved rival gangs. Smith’s attorney expects the latest case to be settled prior to the trial date on the charges in January.
