Defenders Monument Removed 10 Oct 12

The New Ulm Defenders Monument was removed Tuesday morning as part of it’s upcoming redesign. The Defender’s Monument was originally erected in 1891 by the State of Minnesota to honor the memory of those who aided New Ulm during the US-Dakota War of 1862. The artwork at the base was created by New Ulm artist Anton Gag. The Minnesota Historical Society will oversee the upcoming repair work, with the monument slated to return to its home on Center Street in New Ulm by the Spring of 2013.
