Baker Gone, Blackburn Surgery 30 Oct 12

The Twins declined the 2013 contract option on pitcher Scott Baker on Monday, making him a free agent. Baker, who would have made 9.25-million-dollars if his option was exercised, did not pitch this past season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. He went 8-and-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 2011. The 31-year-old is 63-and-48 with a 4.15 ERA in seven big league seasons.

The Twins announced yesterday that pitcher Nick Blackburn had bone chips removed from his right elbow last week but is expected to be ready to go for Spring Training. Blackburn finished just 4-and-9 with a 7.39 ERA in 14 starts this past season. He was eventually outrighted off the 40-man roster on August 20th and finished the year at Triple-A Rochester.
