Twins Grant Nishioka Unconditional Release

The Minnesota Twins have granted infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka his unconditional release. The 28-year-old asked to be cut loose despite one year remaining on a three-year contract that was to pay him $3-million next season with a $250-thousand buyout. The Japanese import failed to record a hit in 12 at-bats, but knocked in a run in three games for the Twins this season. Nishioka’s 2011 season was cut short by a broken leg suffered in a collision with New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher.
