The thunderstorm that rolled through the area Tuesday night is being blamed for damage to homes and businesses in Blue Earth County and elsewhere. Numerous trees were reportedly blown down in the Lake Crystal area. The storm also tore the roof off of a Mankato business, destroyed a billboard in the community, and damaged part of the roof of the chapel of Bethany Lutheran College. Downed power lines also caused parts of North Mankato to be without electricity for about a half-hour. There were other scattered reports of storm damage elsewhere in southern Minnesota as well, but no injuries have been reported. Scattered showers are expected in the area on Friday.
