The Springfield Tiger Football Team, with the help of the SHS Student Council and the SHS BPA Chapter, will partner with the Minnesota Football Coaches Association and The Randy Schaver Cancer Research and Community Fund to sponsor a “Tackle Cancer Game” at Riverside Park on Friday September 28th. The Tigers will square off against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Southern Minnesota Conference game. This is a part of a statewide coordinated effort between the MFCA and The Randy Shaver Fund to impact cancer research and statewide cancer support programs. The specific programs and organizations that The Fund supports and be seen at the following website: www.randyshavercancerfund.org
There will be a number of events during homecoming week in support of this event. Student council will be selling homecoming buttons (designed and assembled by SHS BPA) and 1/2 of the proceeds will go towards tackle cancer, the other to cost of producing the buttons. If the students raise $800, Coach Dunn will take a pie in the face at the homecoming pep fest, $900, Mr. Kuehn and Mr. Moriarty (Dist #85 Principals) and if $1000 is raised, Supt. Kottke will get a pie! There will be a silent auction for Tiger Football Memorabilia as well as a raffle for similar items. There will be Helmets at the gate for donations, and free will donations will be solicited at halftime by our Jr. High and C squad players.
Come out an support Tiger Football in their homecoming game and please consider helping us “Tackle Cancer!” If you cannot make the game but still wish to support the cause, contact Paul Dunn or Pat Moriarty at Springfield High School ( 507-723-4288 .)
