An elderly St. Peter resident was scammed out of $2,000 recently. He was the victim of a money-wiring scam in which a caller claims to be the victim’s grandchild in need of money due to some emergency. In this case the caller claimed that he had been in a car accident, and needed money to cover damage expenses. The victim wired the money before realizing that he knew his grandson’s whereabouts at the time. Authorities say that very little can be done to recover lost money in cases like these, and encourage people to use caution if such a situation arises.
