Firefighters from Lafayette battled a fire at a farm just west of the town Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire at the Joel and Kelly Hotovec farm about 3 miles west of Lafayette at around 4:30pm Tuesday, and were on the scene until around 7. The fire was reportedly burning in a pile of tires at the farm, and a large amount of water was needed to put out the burning tires. Lafayette Excavating brought out a back hoe to separate the tires to make sure they were all soaked. The Lafayette Fire Department received mutual aid from New Ulm, Courtland, Winthrop and Gibbon firefighters, and no injuries were reported.
