Jurors have acquitted a Freeport man accused of violating state laws by distributing raw milk to consumers. A jury in Hennepin County acquitted Alvin Schlangen on all counts Thursday. Schlangen is an organic egg producer whose attorney argued that he ran a buying club that distributes raw milk from Amish farmers, and that it was not a business. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture contends that the state’s restrictions on raw milk sales protect the public from deadly diseases. The trial of a Gibbon area farmer also accused of selling raw milk was delayed recently. Michael Hartmann faces a total of 9 charges for selling raw milk from his farm.
