Construction work on a new roundabout on Highway 14 on the west end of New Ulm continues, with the project slated for completion on Monday, September 17th. Highway 14 will be opened to the public when the work is completed. Mn/DOT says that roundabouts are safer than regular intersections because their design prevents more serious crashes. The New Ulm Highway 14 roundabout has been explicitly designed to accommodate larger vehicles such as tractors and semi-trucks as well. Grading work and curb and gutter construction have all been completed at this time, and the paving of the roundabout starts this week. Work on the parking lot and the exterior of the new Menards store at that location is also wrapping up, with the store scheduled to open in the Spring of 2013.
