The construction of a more-than $2-million flood levee along the Minnesota River in New Ulm continues, with the work now approaching the half-way point. The dike will run from 9th South to 19th South Street in New Ulm when completed, at a cost of around $2.26-million. A Minnesota DNR grant will cover a million dollars of the expenses. The majority of the work from the Schell’s Brewery warehouse on 18th Street to 14th South has now been completed, along with preliminary work on the remainder of the levee. Two dozen workers are operating the heavy equipment needed to construct the levee and haul earth and clay to the site. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
