An 11-year-old girl from the heart of central Minnesota now has a true fish story to tell her future grandkids. The girl from Sartell reportedly reeled in a giant fish from Lake Shamineau near the town of Motley this weekend. Katelyn Hammer first caught a small sunfish but then, as she let the fish dangle just above the water, a 50-inch muskie jumped up, ate the fish but got hooked on Katelyn’s line. With the help of her cousin Joe, they reeled in the giant muskie, took some photos, then released the monster back into the lake. Best yet, the girl was using a broken fishing rod that had been glued back together by her father. Katelyn’s 50-inch muskie was just six inches shorter than the largest muskie ever caught in Minnesota.
