A total of around 50 law enforcement officers, including SWAT Team personnel, took part in a 13-hour standoff with an armed man about 4 miles northeast of Hutchinson Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. The standoff began with the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office receiving a report of shots being fired at a home near 145th Street at around 12:30 Saturday afternoon, and ended with a 46-year-old Darwin man being airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale after he apparently shot himself in the head with a shotgun. The suspect’s name is being withheld at this time, but he reportedly remains in critical condition at North Memorial. Authorities say an adult female had barricaded herself in the house when the shots were fired. The woman was unharmed, and had safely escaped from the home when the suspect shot himself. The incident remains under investigation, and more details are expected later today (WED).
