Authorities have released the name of the 19-year-old Janesville man who was killed in a farm accident in Waseca County on Tuesday. Jared Weckwerth was reportedly helping remove corn from a grain bin at a farm on 403rd Avenue near Janesville when he apparently fell into the 15-feet of corn at around 12:30pm. When the other workers at the farm realized Weckwerth was missing they called for help, and emergency personnel spent the next 2 hours trying to free him. Three holes were drilled in the side of the bin, and grain was being augered out, but the efforts to rescue Weckwerth before he suffocated were unsuccessful. Fire and Rescue crews from Janesville, Waseca, and New Richland, as well as the Waseca County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
