A Hector man faces felony assault charges for allegedly throwing a wrench at a 7-year-old boy’s head and causing severe, potentially life-threatening injuries. 31-year-old Dean Michael Lentz made an appearance in Renville County Court on Monday on the charges. The alleged incident took place in early June. Lentz told investigators that he was in an outbuilding at his residence that day, and that the boy was not listening to his requests. He reportedly told the child that if he didn’t stop spitting on the doorway of his shop, Lentz would throw a ratchet at him. Lentz admitted to intentionally throwing the ratchet at the boy, but says he did not intend to hit the child. The boy was treated at the Hennepin County Medical Center for a skull fracture, cerebral spinal fluid leak and multiple facial fractures, and the injuries required immediate neurosurgical intervention. Lentz will be back in court for the charges on October 26th, and a jury trial is scheduled to begin on December 11th.
