A court hearing involving the Mayor of Ceylon was postponed on Tuesday. Mayor John Gibeau faces domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call charges after allegedly shoving his estranged wife and taking away her cell phone during an incident in May while Gibeau was living at a rural residence in Jackson. He has since relocated back to Ceylon. His wife had reportedly been dropping off their children for a visit when the 2 began to argue and he allegedly shoved her. Gibeau has stated that he took her phone away during the altercation because he believed she was calling her father, who had reportedly physically threatened Gibeau in the past. Tuesday’s hearing was postponed due to a scheduling conflict, and has been rescheduled for October 30th. Gibeau was first elected mayor of Ceylon in 1998 and served until 2004. He was re-elected in 2006, and is on the ballot again in November. He faces two challengers.
