The Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District has named Leon Treml of rural Sleepy Eye its Outstanding Conservationist for 2012. Treml operates a corn and soybean farm, and over the years he has installed an 800-foot grass waterway and planted hundreds of trees and other plants for use as wildlife food. He also has seven Conservation Reserve Program contracts totaling over 53-acres. This provides excellent cover for many songbirds, pheasants, turkeys and other wildlife. Treml will now be recognized at the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Annual State Convention in Bloomington this December, along with other outstanding conservationists from across the state.
