The U.S. men’s basketball team cruised past Australia 119-86 on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the London Games. LeBron James had Team USA’s first triple-double, and Timberwolves forward Kevin Love added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Americans will face Argentina in the semis Friday for the third straight Olympics. Team USA beat the Argentines 126-97 Monday in the final game of pool play. Spain will play Russia in the first semifinal meeting on Friday.

U.S. Women Hoops Face Australia in Semifinals

(London) — The U.S. women’s basketball team plays Australia today in the semifinals of the London Olympics. Team USA routed Canada 91-48 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Lynx forward Maya Moore had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. The Australians are seen as the biggest challengers to the Americans with tall post players Lauren Jackson and Liz Cambage. Moore, Seimone Augustus and Hutchinson native Lindsay Whalen are representing Minnesota’s WNBA franchise in London.
