New Judge Sworn In 18 Aug 12

A new judge was sworn for Brown County’s 5th Judicial District in New Ulm on Friday. New Ulm resident Robert Docherty took his oath in front of more than a hundred family members, friends and colleagues in the Brown County Courtroom. Judge Docherty said: “Judges come and go, but the court remains as an institution. I look forward to my opportunity to continue to uphold the high standards that have been set by the judges who have served Brown County and the state of Minnesota.”

The opening on the bench was created when Judge John Rodenberg was appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Docherty previously worked for the Mankato Public Defender’s Office, as an Assistant Public Defender for the 5th Judicial District, and with the Somsen, Schade and Franta Law Firm in New Ulm. He also volunteers as a New Ulm High School Mock Trial coach and judge and is a former co-chair of the New Ulm Human Rights Commission. Docherty comes from a family of nine – five of whom that became lawyers and three that married lawyers
