The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for the public’s help identifying a vehicle and driver involved in a near collision in North Mankato on Tuesday. It happened at just before 12:30pm. A Mankato man was driving a scooter on the exit from northbound Highway 169 to Lookout Drive when he was cut off by an unknown vehicle. The scooter driver, 46-year-old Curtis Kliewer laid the scooter down to avoid the collision, but suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg, collar bone and ribs. He remains hospitalized. Authorities say the fact that he was wearing a helmet at the time likely saved his life. The unknown vehicle is described as a white cargo van with three to four inch faded powder blue lettering on the side and rear, possibly including the word “MOBILE.” It is possible the driver did not realize the event occurred. Anyone with information on this crash or the identity of the unknown vehicle and driver should call the state patrol at (507)344-2756.
