A New Ulm man accused of embezzling around $100,000 in funds from the Brown County Ag Society and the New Ulm Baseball Association made an appearance in court on Tuesday, and requested more time for his defense to investigate the case. 59-year-old Robert James Reinhart was in court for an omnibus hearing, and the judge granted him a 60-day extension on the case, the maximum amount of time allowed. Reinhart has reportedly admitted to the crimes, and told police he planned to pay back all the money. His lawyer says that the case involves 3 years worth of records to review, and that they are gathering evidence that contradicts the state’s evidence. The judge in the case also agreed on Tuesday to amend the 16 felony counts of theft against Reinhart down to 10. His new omnibus hearing is now scheduled to take place on October 2nd.
