Numerous events are taking place in Brown County, and around the state this week to mark the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the US-Dakota War of 1862. The Brown County Historical Society’s Kim Jahnke says that a lot of work went into the planning of the week’s events commemorating the solemn anniversary. US-Dakota War anniversary events in Brown County this week include: historic tours, round-table discussions and symposiums, monument dedications, special concerts, performances of a special play on the war, the unveiling of new exhibits at the Brown County Museum, and much more. This week marks the anniversary of the first and second of the battles at Fort Ridgely, as well as the second strike on New Ulm in the war.
