Boston defeats Minnesoat, Twins make Moves 06 Aug 12

Boston’s Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI as the Red Sox pulled out a 6-4 win over the Twins yesterday at Fenway Park. Minnesota made things interesting in the ninth, scoring three runs off home runs by Josh Willingham and Ryan Doumit, but Alfredo Aceves finished off the game to pick up his 23rd save. Twins starter Nick Blackburn fell to 4-and-7. The Twins kick off a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians this evening in Ohio. Red Sox Get Valencia From Twins

(Boston, MA) — The Twins traded third baseman Danny Valencia to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league outfielder Jeremias Pineda yesterday. The Red Sox optioned Valencia to Triple-A Pawtucket. Valencia hit just .198 in 34 games with the Twins this season. Pineda is hitting .421 with nine doubles and three triples in rookie ball.

Twins Recall Nishioka

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins called up infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka (see-OH-shee NEE-shee-oh-kuh) from Class AAA Rochester yesterday and he is expected to be with the team in Cleveland tonight. He takes the roster spot of Danny Valencia, who was traded to Boston prior to yesterday’s 6-4 loss to the Red Sox. In 84 games in Rochester this year, Nishioka is hitting .245 with one home run and 24 runs driven in.
