The Blue Earth County Board on Tuesday unanimously voted to allow all-terrain vehicles on county roads. Five people testified at the public hearing on the issue, with 4 of them supporting the measure. The ordinance is meant to give Blue Earth County ATV riders more freedom of movement, while sparing the county’s ditches and other natural areas. ATVs are not allowed in ditches in this region of the state from April 1st to August 1st. As part of the ordinance, ATV operators will be required to have a left-side rear-view mirror. An amendment to the ordinance will allow so-called “mini-trucks” to travel on Blue Earth County roads as well. The new rules will take effect in 30 days.
