A southwest Minnesota woman has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement by a bank officer. 66-year-old Carolyn Hampel of Jackson admitted to stealing upwards of $120,000 from customer accounts between January 2005 and August of last year. Hampel was a retail operations officer for United Prairie Bank in Mankato at the time. She reportedly used the money for herself and to pay down a family member’s loan. She has also been ordered to pay $130,000 in restitution.
