Texting While Crashing 23 Jul 12

A 19-year-old Franklin man facing criminal charges for allegedly sending text messages prior to a car crash in Klossner last September is scheduled to make an appearance in Nicollet County Court this week. Four people were injured in the crash on Highway 15 when a Chevy pickup truck driven by John Rebstock pulled out onto the highway directly in front of a Chevy Tahoe driven by 34-year-old Jason Brown of South Haven. Both drivers and the 2 passengers in the Tahoe suffered minor injuries. Authorities say that Rebstock had sent 3 text messages in the minutes leading up to the crash, and was apparently in the process of writing another when the collision occurred. It is illegal to text while driving in Minnesota. Rebstock admitted to sending and receiving text messages while he was driving, but said he had stopped before the crash. He’s scheduled to be in court on Tuesday.
