A deadly railroad crossing near the City of Lake Crystal will be getting signals and gates ahead of schedule. The crossing at Blue Earth County Road 112 was the site of a fatal accident in July of 2009. Two county employees, Todd Ziegler and Jack Baker, were killed when the dump truck they were in collided with a train. The county had been scheduled to receive federal funding for safety upgrades at the crossing in 2016, but it has now been decided that the county will pay the $250,000 cost of the upgrades now, and be reimbursed in four years. William Henry Epper of Nicollet was injured at the same railroad crossing this past June also when a train collided with his vehicle. He spent several days in the hospital following the crash.
