The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a new phone scam circulating around the area. A Redwood County resident received a call requesting donations that claimed to be a fundraiser partnership between the Redwood Area Chamber, the Red Cross, and the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office. There are currently no fundraising efforts being conducted with these organizations. Residents are being reminded to never give out personal information, such as banking information or a social security number over the phone. Authorities say that these scams are becoming increasingly common, and that many sound quite convincing. Citizens are encouraged to contact law enforcement if they feel that they have fallen victim to a scam.
