Plans continue to unfold when it comes to expanding Highway 14. Democrat Tim Walz made a stop in Owatonna to tout the passage of the Transportation Bill in Congress and to advocate for a four-lane portion of Highway 14 between Owatonna and Dodge Center. Walz says the passage of the transportation bill through Congress will funnel about $625 million dollars to Minnesota and it is hoped some of that money will be used to make Highway 14 a four-lane from Owatonna to Dodge Center. If the proposal goes through, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says the total price tag would range between $150-200 million. State officials say the earliest construction could begin on the proposed four-lane from Owatonna to Dodge Center is 2014.
