Governor Dayton has appointed New Ulm resident Robert Docherty to the open judgeship position in Brown County’s 5th Judicial District. The opening on the bench was created when Judge John Rodenberg began serving on the Minnesota Court of Appeals in February. Docherty currently works for the Mankato Public Defender’s Office. He previously served as an Assistant Public Defender for the 5th Judicial District and also worked with the Somsen, Schade and Franta Law Firm in New Ulm. He also volunteers as a New Ulm High School Mock Trial coach and judge and is a former co-chair of the New Ulm Human Rights Commission. He was one of three finalists for the judgeship, and will begin those duties soon. The Fifth Judicial District also includes Blue Earth, Cottonwood, Faribault, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Rock and Watonwan Counties.
