More information has been released on an early Sunday morning boating accident on Lake Shetek that left a Lamberton man dead. The Murray County Sheriff’s Office received a report at just before 12:30am that a boat traveling at a high rate of speed had crashed into a bridge. First responders found the 21-foot boat wedged under the bridge at Valhalla Road, and there were 3 occupants. Emergency personnel were able to extricate 49-year-old Tamra Jo Altermatt and 19-year-old Miranda Frankie Altermatt of Lamberton from the boat, but 49-year-old Perry James Altermatt was pronounced dead on the scene. Miranda Altermatt was taken to the Sioux Falls Hospital with serious injuries. Tamra Altermatt was treated for her injuries and released. The bridge where the crash occurred is described by local residents as more of a dike that a boat can not fit under. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
