A Gibbon man was convicted of 5th-degree assault on Tuesday in Brown County Court. Joseph Sigfred Guggisberg was sentenced to 90-days in jail for the crime, but 75 days of that sentence were stayed, so he will only spend an actual 15 days in jail. He will also be on supervised probation for a year. Guggisberg was taken into custody for the domestic assault incident on Henle Drive in New Ulm on April 18th. In court on Tuesday he was also ordered to complete a domestic violence counseling program, and may have no contact with the victim. A domestic assault by strangulation charge against him was dismissed.
