A Nicollet man was hospitalized Wednesday morning after his car was hit by a train in the City of Lake Crystal. The incident happened at just before 9:30am at the railroad crossing near Highway 60 and Blue Earth County Road 112 in Lake Crystal. The Union Pacific train was travelling eastbound, and was reportedly blowing it’s horn several times as it approached the intersection. A 1999 Buick Century driven by William Henry Epper of Nicollet was heading southbound when it drove past the stop sign at the railroad crossing and was hit by the train. Epper was hospitalized with unknown injuries, and was in Fair condition as of Thursday. The damage to his vehicle was extensive. No one on the train was hurt. Authorities are reminding drivers to use extra care when crossing railroad tracks.
