Tobacco License Denied 07 Jun 12

The New Ulm City Council on Tuesday granted numerous licenses to area businesses, including everything from alcohol licenses to a sauna license and even a sheep license, but there was one business that was denied it’s license. The new “Smokes 4 Less” store in New Ulm was denied a tobacco license because it sells forms of synthetic marijuana currently permitted by state law. Councilor Les Schultz brought forth the issue, saying that residents are going to the hospital and detox because of “Spice” and that he cannot support a license for the business. The current Smokes 4 Less tobacco license expires at the end of the month, giving the owner an opportunity to discontinue selling the synthetic marijuana products and appear before the council at it’s June 19th meeting to appeal the decision to not renew the license.
